STATEMENT: Senate Majority Leader Responds to Governor’s Attempt To Alter Prevailing Wage

Lansing, Mich. – Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey today issued the following statement in response to news that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer intends to disregard the citizen-initiated repeal of Michigan’s prevailing wage law:

“This isn’t policy. It’s overt partisan politics. And it smells of desperation. We know union members are migrating to Republicans because of policy not politics. After losing the confidence of hardworking people in the building trades over her wasteful legal effort to shut down Line 5, she is trying to buy them back. They won’t fall for this cheap stunt. These are people who work too hard to be fooled.

“At the end of the day, Gov. Whitmer has to live with the fact she cast aside the will of public and the Constitution to attempt to purchase public favor.”
