LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Mike Shirkey recently visited students at Bean Elementary School and Springport Elementary School as part of March is Reading Month.
Shirkey emphasized the importance of reading and read aloud to some of the students from a book about Paul Bunyan.
“It is so important that we provide quality instruction in reading in the younger grades and lay the foundation for the activity that more than any other will help determine the future success of our children,” said Shirkey, R-Clarklake. “If we do it right, kids will soon discover how fun reading is — and then they’re hooked!”
