LANSING—Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, issued the following statement regarding the news of Rudy Giuliani’s planned participation in the Michigan House Oversight Committee.
“We appreciate the partnership of our colleagues in the House to also provide a forum to address the myriad of issues raised as a result of the November election. The Senate Oversight Committee focused its attention and effort this week on hearing from the many citizens who contacted the chair’s office to share their experiences related to the election. Our partners in the House will make available their Oversight Committee as a forum for members of the President’s campaign to share information. The legislative process and our democracy benefit from the efforts of these two committees as the mountain of information in need of review presents an insurmountable task for a single committee effort.”
“The Senate Republicans remain committed to helping restore confidence in Michigan’s elections processes and improving the system by providing an outlet for concerns to be reviewed and new policy to be proposed,” said Shirkey.
