LANSING, Mich. — Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey on Thursday issued the following statement following the murders of eight people in the Atlanta area, six of whom were of Asian Americans:
“I have been distressed to see hatred and violence rise across the country over the past year. No more so have I been disturbed by the violence than when I learned that eight innocent people in Georgia lost their lives in a tragic shooting spree. The violence must stop. We have a common, worldwide enemy in COVID-19. The American people must work together against this common enemy to restore normalcy and safety in our cities and towns.”
The Senate on Thursday unanimously approved Senate Resolution 30 condemning violence against Asian Americans.
