LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Mike Shirkey on Tuesday thanked Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for declaring a state of emergency in Branch and Hillsdale counties to address the impacts of recent storms.
“Many people throughout our region are dealing with extensive damage caused by severe storms, and I want to thank our governor for making resources available to help our communities and local families recover,” said Shirkey, R-Clarklake. “I also want to thank the dedicated workers and selfless neighbors who responded right away to help people affected by the storms, clean up their communities and restore power. It is always great to see how we come together to help our fellow Michiganders in times of need.”
By declaring a state of emergency, the governor has made available all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the two counties.
The declaration authorizes the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division to coordinate state efforts above and beyond what it has already been doing in conjunction with local agencies.
