Senate delivers on promise to lower car insurance rates

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to send the governor a historic measure to lower Michigan’s highest-in-the-nation auto insurance rates:

“My colleagues and I chose car insurance reform as the number one legislative priority for this session with the introduction of Senate Bill 1 in January.

Today, we delivered on our promise to Michigan families to provider cheaper car insurance options.  We are proud to join our colleagues in this chamber and our colleagues in the House to send this bill to our Governor for signature.

Car insurance reform was always going to end up on our Governor’s desk, but it was most important that it be sent with the promise of signature.

We look forward to our citizens having the opportunity to choose the car insurance option that best meets their needs and their budgets.  Our action today means that Michigan families will soon have the opportunity to realize significant savings on their car insurance bills.

Michigan families expect results.  Today, we delivered those results.”
